Program Description


The Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) program at South University’s campus in Columbia, South Carolina, is designed to provide progressive, quality post-graduate education for the pharmacy profession’s future practitioners. The role of pharmacists in the medical field is changing and evolving to meet the demands of the profession and society. The Pharmacy degree curriculum at South University – Columbia is structured to produce graduates who can adapt to the profession’s changes while also maintaining high standards of pharmacy practice. This is the third Doctor of Pharmacy program in South Carolina.

WHAT MAKES OUR PHARMACY DEGREE PROGRAM DIFFERENT?

  • Accelerated Program

    After being accepted to the South University School of Pharmacy, students begin an accelerated, full-time 12-quarter schedule designed to provide four academic years in three calendar years. This accelerated pace, available only in a handful of institutions in the country, allows students an earlier entry into the workforce.

  • Curriculum

    It is one with a carefully structured curriculum to prepare graduates for both high standards of contemporary pharmacy practice and the evolution of the profession. The didactic program is delivered by synchronous video conferencing technology with real-time interaction between faculty and students on both campuses in Savannah, GA and Columbia, SC. Within the educational experience, students also maintain individualized attention through comparably equipped laboratory facilities, physical assessment laboratories, small group recitations and problem based learning activities conducted by faculty on both campuses.

    It is one with a mixture of seasoned and energetic young faculty with both teaching and practical experience in the field.

  • Teaching Method

    It is one that interrelates the basic sciences and pharmacy practice in a setting of collaborative learning and teamwork.

  • Technology & Facilities

    It is one that offers personalized and technically sophisticated instructional delivery. The use of computerized classrooms and synchronous video conference technology create a state of the art learning environment. In addition, the South University School of Pharmacy features industry-standard equipment and facilities.

Program Outcomes

The Doctor of Pharmacy Degree Program prepares graduates to work as entry-level pharmacists in retail settings, hospitals, mail-order and internet pharmacies, pharmaceutical wholesalers, doctors' offices, and the government.
