South University confers 35 baccalaureate degrees in nursing

South University will award 35 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees, three Bachelor of Health Science degrees, and its first Associate of Science in Allied Health degree during spring commencement in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church's Higgins Hall on Thursday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m.
Mary Beth Reardon, RN MS OCN NEA-BC, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, will be the commencement speaker. The commencement will include a pinning ceremony for the nursing graduates, where each graduate will receive a South University nursing pin and a rose to commemorate their entry into the profession of nursing.
"The nursing shortage continues to be a challenge throughout Florida," said Dan Coble, RN PhD, president of South University - Tampa. "Our graduates will improve the lives of many people in our communities by working at local hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and anywhere they choose to apply their expertise."

Ms. Reardon was the founding director of nursing for the Moffitt Cancer Center. Under her leadership, the Center has implemented a nursing shared governance model, designed a clinical ladder program, and planned for a comprehensive electronic medical record. She is a member of the Tampa Bay Organization of Nurse Executives, Oncology Nursing Society, American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She maintains national certification in oncology nursing and nursing administration.
