Are you looking for legal studies bachelor’s degree programs in Virginia Beach, Virginia? Our Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies degree program can provide you with a broad academic background in general education, fundamental theoretical legal concepts, and practical applications. This South University, Virginia Beach Legal Studies bachelor’s degree program is designed for the student who clearly shows potential for a career in the legal field. As a graduate, you will be prepared for challenging assignments, including investigating cases, researching the law, and preparing documents for litigation or business transactions while working under the supervision of a licensed attorney.

The coursework emphasizes development of keen analytical and critical thinking skills while fostering sensitivity to cultural and political diversity. Graduates of the South University, Virginia Beach Legal Studies bachelor’s degree program may become paralegals in law firms, banks, insurance companies, governmental agencies and corporations. A paralegal is a person who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible. Paralegals and legal assistants may not give legal advice, set fees, or represent clients in court. All students in our Legal Studies programs receive instruction in legal ethics and how to avoid the unauthorized practice of law.

The partially online format for the Legal Studies degree program is available through our Savannah campus.

The ABA has approved the South University Paralegal and Legal Studies Programs at Savannah, GA., Montgomery, AL., West Palm Beach, FL., and Columbia, SC. Legal and Paralegal Studies programs offered at our Novi, Richmond and Virginia Beach campuses will not be eligible to apply for ABA approval until they have graduates and have been operating for at least two years. Only the South University program at Savannah has had courses approved in an alternative (online) delivery format by the ABA. Additionally, those who enroll in the partially online Paralegal and Legal Studies Programs in Savannah must complete LGS 1005 Legal Research and Writing I, and three other paralegal/legal studies courses of their choice, with guidance from their program director or academic counselor, in the traditional classroom format on a South University campus or other institution that meets our transfer criteria.

Program Outcomes

Legal professionals, such as paralegals and legal assistants, work for attorneys by assisting with the preparation of criminal and civil cases, including interviewing clients, investigating facts, drafting legal documents, researching law, and assisting the attorney at trial.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Legal Studies degree program is designed to prepare graduates to seek employment in a variety of areas. Legal professionals work for attorneys in diverse areas such as family law, personal injury, criminal, international law, environmental law, employment law, and more.

Entry-level employment opportunities for program graduates can be found in a spectrum of workplaces, including:
